Around 300 Luxembourgian wines supplied by Ruppert

Since he started working at Ruppert in Oberdonven two years ago, sommelier Zoran Matic has considerably extended the wine range. Luxembourgian wines represent the lion’s share, with around 300 listed.

Ruppert is a store known for more than just its wine – in fact wine merely represents the latest chapter in its growth (after fuel oil, beverages and garden products). However, it doesn’t do things by halves! Two years ago, it recruited a trained sommelier, Zoran Matic, and gave him free rein to put together an offering for business and private customers.

Some major improvements have also recently been carried out to enhance wine enthusiasts’ customer experience. Nowadays, wine plays a very prominent in the store. Brand-new shelves packed with bottles are given pride of place. It’s immediately apparent that Luxembourgian wine is very well thought of here. “Our store is very close to the Moselle vineyards, so it was essential to offer our customers a very large selection!” smiles Zoran Matic.

The sommelier is by no means exaggerating – of the 400 wines supplied, between 250 and 300 (including around fifty sparkling wines) are sourced from local cellars and not just from the big players, although naturally Vinsmoselle and Bernard Massard are also well-represented! Zoran Matic clearly enjoys exploring independent winemakers (e.g. Alice Hartmann, Henri Ruppert, Cep d’Or, Kohll Leuck, Keyser-Kohll by Kohll-Reuland, Berna, Legill, Pundel Vins purs, Laurent et Rita Kox, etc.) to unearth cuvées that appeal to him. In particular, he has become a specialist in showcasing little-known grape varieties such as Regent, Mertzig and Cabernet Blanc. Every month, two Luxembourgian estates are promoted in-store and on the Facebook page “Ruppert är Vinothéik”.

Moreover, when the store was reorganised, a brand-new, private tasting area was set up, in which Zoran Matic holds themed tastings on the first Saturday of the month. The room can also be booked for private tastings.

Finally – and this is a real bonus – all the wines are available for home delivery (with no minimum order quantity).
