Domaine Schumacher-Knepper (Wintrange), Areo, Rivaner 2016

Zoran Matic, Sommelier-Sales Representative for Maison Ruppert (rue Brill, in Oberdonven)

“The name of the wine, Areo, signifies that it is dry (from the Latin areo). That’s because this Rivaner, at 157 degrees Oechsle, is the fruit from the selection of the best grapes, which has then been dried for 12 weeks using the method applied for straw wines. It is a process using this grape variety that is unique in Luxembourg, making it possible to rejuvenate a Rivaner which is no longer as favoured a variety as in the past. This luscious white wine presents a golden-yellow colour, with hints of orange. The nose opens initially with notes of honey and liquorice. As the wine breathes, a second nose develops, offering an aromatic palette of white-flesh fruits. There is elegance and freshness in the mouth, fruity with exotic flavours such as candied pineapple, before ending on a delicious marshmallow finish. Taste this with companion dishes such as a carpaccio of pineapple or an apricot tart.”

Price: 26 euros (375ml, from the winery)
